Outdoor Bowls Section

If you have some spare time, perhaps recently retired or working part-time, then lawns bowls may appeal to you. It is a low-impact fun pastime which can bring great personal satisfaction independent of your gender, age, skills and abilities. It is a great opportunity to develop new friendships and to become part of your local community. Club coaches will provide free help with your initial introduction to the game and develop your game to whatever level you desire. Spare bowls are available for trial practice sessions and social events until you decide to commit further. The bowls section presently comprises (circa 21) some 80 women and men of many ages and is always looking for new members. The club season usually starts in early July each year.

Our artificial green allows all-year round play and attracts many outside visitors to our popular winter mid-week tournaments since their home grass greens are closed. Visiting teams are attracted by the friendly company, the generous prizes and the good value food and drinks available at the Cossie Club.

The greens are located immediately behind the Cossie Club main building and easy access from the adjacent carpark. High-mast lighting allows twilight social events and club inter-section challenges. Twilight business events are encouraged to attract new and younger members.

Our large clubhouse comprises our tea rooms, kitchen, toilets, and a large outdoor covered seating area accommodates members during morning tea and lunch intervals. It is also well appreciated when we hold our social Bowls BBQ events throughout the summer.

The outdoor bowls section has a busy calendar, both Men’s and Women’s events, throughout the summer and the winter, incorporating Counties Manukau Centre Events and various Manurewa Club Open and Junior competitions.

Most Centre Events are held at weekends during the summer, and our club events are programmed to fit with these. Our Club events are held both weekdays and weekends.

We have a weekly Rollup Day which is held at 9:30am on Tuesday mornings throughout the summer and winter months. Come along and check this out.

Every Wednesday we hold a triples tournament, which is open to all members and visiting teams. These are any combination (women and men) triples (ACT) events. Generous prizes are awarded to the top finishing teams.

We have recently introduced a Saturday morning Rollup, 9:30 start, which is open to anyone interested in playing bowls, but who may be restricted by their weekend work and school commitments. These visitors could include Cossie Club members, and outside friends and families.

So, there is something for everyone.

If lawn bowls appeals to you then we would love to have you come and join the Outdoor Bowls section. Membership applications are available at the Cossie Club office, or you are welcome to drop into the bowling green any Tuesday or Wednesday to check over our facilities and meet our friendly bowlers.
